Temnein – Tales: Of Humanity And Greed

Third album of French Melodic Death Metal band Temnein. The main lyrical concept is about various tales, myths and legends. Different universes and folklores are mentioned: classic childhood occidental fairy-tales, unsung tales from Asia and Inuit lands, Pop culture universes (Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask, Doctor Who…). Each story has a common moral: the repetition of human errors and avidity across time. Musically, the band has wrote shorter songs to add more dynamics to their Melodeath roots. More Doom/Death and Post-Metal influences have been incorporated to increase the atmospheric side of the previous album. A 10-minute song with Progressive elements is closing the album.

Evertrapped – The Last Extinction

[EVERTRAPPED] is a Montreal-based five-piece who have been bringing beautifully relentless brutal melodic death metal to audiences since 2007. The band’s name is intentionally written with enclosed brackets to signify the trappings of modern life for all of us and how people, despite their best attempts to break out of the mold are still affixed to a simple controlled existence and futility.

Malefistum – Enemy

The cooperation project MalefistuM was founded in 2019 by Dawn Of Destiny guitarist Jens Faber and combines various metal genres into a most interesting and unique mix between epic, symphonic, power metal and growl elements. On the surface, influences of bands like Ensiferum, Equilibirum, Dark Tranqulity and also Nightwish are recognizable. However, the eleven songs of the album gain depth and variety in particular from the contributions of the guest vocalists. Melissa Bonny (Ad Infinitum, Warkings, Rage Of Light, Serenity) who is responsible for the vocals on most of the tracks, demonstrates her many years of experience and routine and glides confidently between pure and no less dark aggression (“Towards The Sun”), fragile emotions (“Fear Of Tomorrow”) and catchy choruses (“This Memory”). The remaining songs are refined by Federica Lanna (Sleeping Romance) who performs the halting, heavy and wonderfully epic “Adore Me” in the perfect way, Black Messiah shouter Zagan whose voice gives a decisive edge to the vibrant and pumping “I Will Know Your Name”, and Eric Dow (Helsott) whose vocal range turns the song “The Answer” into a stylistic tour de force. “Enemy” not only stands out due to its music and compositions, but also due to the atmospheric and detailed artwork by Hans Trasid which moulds the album into an impressive work of music and concept.

Aether Realm – Redneck Vikings From Hell

North Carolina’s AETHER REALM has reached melodic death metal maestro status with their latest full-length offering and Napalm Records debut, Redneck Vikings From Hell! With this album, the band improves upon their already distinctive sound that, since day one, has had fans wondering if they’re hearing a band from the States or the mountains of Finland! Each of the 11 tracks on Redneck Vikings From Hell are entirely distinct, setting the stage by playing upon their southern roots with the banjo-laden epic folk metal-inspired title track “Redneck Vikings From Hell”. Meanwhile, the arena-ready first single “Goodbye” and center-cuts like the thrashy, unwavering “Lean Into the Wind”, the powerful anthem “Hunger” and symphonic brutality banger “Slave to the Riff” provide a weightier sample of the unconventional stylings of AETHER REALM 3.0. Otherworldly closing track “Craft and the Creator” drives it all home, showcasing each individual band member’s infallible technical skills and featuring hair-raising leads that would make any guitar god blush. Furthermore, the album is strung together by colossal orchestral elements that lift the album to new heights previously unreached by the band. Redneck Vikings From Hell not only cements AETHER REALM as a band to watch but will also have listeners questioning just what exactly they can’t do. Don’t be swayed by the title — Redneck Vikings From Hell is no joke.
